Immediate Dental Implant Placement
Immediate Dental Implant Placement
Immediate implant placement refers to a process in which an implant screw is placed at the time when the tooth it is replacing is extracted. One advantage of immediate implant placement is that the entire duration of dental implant therapy may be shortened by 2-3 months. This is made possible because instead of doing a bone graft following extraction, and waiting for 3 months before the placement of implant, the two surgeries are combined into one surgery. It is important to note that not all cases are indicated for immediate implant placement. When case selection is not favorable, immediate implant placement can lead to unpleasant esthetic outcome and jeopardized implant functionality. When case selection is favorable, immediate implant placement would be the choice surgery.
