Implant-Supported Dentures

What are Implant-Supported Dentures?

An implant-supported denture uses four or more implants per arch to keep a denture in place. The denture is made specifically to fit the implants, so it can still be removed as needed to keep it clean and odor-free. Implant-supported dentures are ideal for patients who are tired of using strips, adhesives and creams to keep the prosthetic firmly in place. If you are constantly dealing with a denture that falls out and slips, it may be time to consider implants.

Why are Implant-Supported Dentures needed?

Implant-supported dentures may be necessary if you’re dealing with a constant ill-fitting denture. Patients who are continually getting adjustments to their appliance or are having to use creams, adhesives and strips will benefit the most from this procedure. You can experience a full, bright smile without any embarrassment or shame. You may even feel more confident because your denture is kept firmly in place all throughout the day.

What makes you a good candidate for Implant-Supported Dentures?

In order to place the implants, you will undergo oral surgery and should have the ability to heal from the procedure. Implants rely on healthy, full bone structure in order to heal successfully, so a bone grafting may be required prior to the implants being placed. We will perform an exam and consultation with you before the implant procedure is done. X-rays and other imaging can help us see the health of your bone and where to best place the implants.

What happens during the procedure for Implant-Supported Dentures?

You will receive either anesthetic or sedation of your choice. We then insert several implants into the bone and suture the gum tissue to promote optimal healing. You will need to come in several times over the course of a few months to check on the implants to ensure they are healing correctly. Once the implants have healed, you will come in and have impressions taken for your new denture plates. We will instruct you on how to insert and remove the dentures to keep them clean.
