Who is a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?
Dental implants can be used to replace one or more missing teeth, while being useful for keeping dentures in place. The procedure is done easily and quickly in our office, at your earliest convenience. Prior to having the implants placed, you will have a consultation and exam to determine if you’re a good candidate for the procedure. Most patients who would like implants can, and will, have them placed, but there are some exceptions that may require you to choose other treatment options.
What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants can be made with either titanium or zirconia. The implant is inserted deep into the bone of the jaw, and given time to bond and fuse with the surrounding structure, which is known as osseointegration. Osseointegration typically occurs in several months, so it’s important to have your implants checked several times during this process. Implants are considered permanent, because they rarely need to be replaced or repaired.
What makes you a good candidate for Dental Implants?
For dental implants to be successful, it is important that you have enough healthy bone in the area they will be placed in. If you suffer from bone loss, you may need to have a bone graft done prior to the surgical procedure. You should be healthy enough to undergo oral surgery, as well as have the ability to heal from the procedure itself. We will go over your health and medical history before the procedure, and can help in choosing the implant that is right for you.
What can you expect during the Dental Implant procedure?
Sedation or local anesthetic will help in keeping the procedure as comfortable as possible for you. Next, we will insert the implant deep into the bone and apply sutures to the gums. The implant will fuse naturally with the bone in just a few months. After the implant has bonded with the surrounding structure, you will come back in and have a new crown or denture made for the new restoration. The procedure is quick and easy, and provides you with a full, healthy smile that improves your confidence. Most people who would like a dental implant can safely have the procedure done in our office.
