Dr. Mack E. Coker, DDS, MS
Mack Elbert Coker was born in Houston, Texas, to Anne Hassetine Colemen Coker and Mack Coker. After completing his work at Mirabeau B. Lamar High School in Houston, Texas, he entered The University of Texas at Austin in 1959. In September 1962, he entered the University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from that institution in June 1966. In 1966, he was also selected for the senior award in anesthesiology, and placed second in the National Student Achievement Award from the American Society of Dentistry for Children.
Upon graduation, Mack Elbert Coker was awarded and served a one year rotating internship at the U.S. Naval Hospital (Balboa) in San Diego, Calif., from July 1966 to June 1967. He was then assigned to the U.S. Naval Base Subic Bay, Republic of the Philippines, until July 1969. A portion of that tour was served at the Naval Hospital on the U.S.S. Repose in Vietnam. He then served at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., from August 1969 to July 1970.
After leaving active duty as Lt. Commander, U.S. Navy in July 1970, he entered the Graduate School of the University of Texas – Dental Branch at Houston. In May 1972, he received a Master of Science Degree, with a major of Biomedical Science, and a certificate in periodontics. In June 1972, he entered the private practice of periodontics, and is still practicing with the intent of staying in this practice. For several years, he held a part-time position as Clinical Professor at the University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston, in the department of periodontics.
In 1981, he was awarded Diplomate Status of the American Board of Periodontology.
