Dental Crowns (Ceramic / Porcelain)
What are Dental Crowns?
A dental crown is helpful for areas that have recently received a dental implant or for teeth that have become severely compromised. We offer both ceramic and porcelain crowns to help enhance and perfect the look of your smile. Dental crowns are durable, long-lasting and can provide years of constant, resilient wear. The procedure to place a dental crown is easy, especially when you already have an implant placed.
Why are Dental Crowns needed?
Most often, implant crowns are necessary if you are completely missing a tooth. The implant is placed underneath the gums and into the bone, where it is given time to heal and fuse with surrounding bone structure. A new dental crown is then made for the implant and placed on top. If a tooth is severely decayed or compromised, it may need to be extracted prior to the implant crown being placed.
What makes you a good candidate for a Dental Crown?
Implant surgery requires that you have the ability to heal from the procedure. In some cases, patients with bone loss may need a bone graft before the implant can be placed successfully. Before any crown is placed, we will perform an examination and go over your health and medical history. Our goal is to provide you with quality care that fits your needs.
What happens during the Dental Crown procedure?
The first step is placing the implant, which is inserted into the bone and given time to heal. The implant undergoes a process known as osseointegration where it naturally fuses with underlying bone structure. Once healed, impressions are taken to create a new dental crown just for you. The crown is placed on the implant and the bite adjusted to ensure a comfortable, smooth fit. Your new crown can last for many years before it will eventually need to be replaced. The underlying implant is permanent, so only the top portion of the crown should be replaced over time.
